Dinah is a contemporary abstract painter and printmaker. A love of the places she knows well forms the raw material for her work and experimentation with mediums and practices help push the work forward. She aims to create evocative images that capture her response to and appreciation of her environment. Living next to the Thames Estuary with its juxtaposition of nature and industry she finds the perfect mix that excites her and drives her work.
Working mainly in oil or acrylic paint and print, she works on several pieces simultaneously, she rarely has a finished image in mind when starting a piece, believing here is where the real creativity can be found. This open approach gives an edge and freeness to her work. Ideas and themes are worked and reworked through the mediums she uses, Dinah investigates the differences these materials bring to the works. A play between solid and void is a common theme, with colour, light and line vying with each other for prominence. Dinah loves the element of chance and change in printing, finding the process can liberate an image and bring further experimentation & freedom to her subject and methods.
